Help Lorraine Recover
Organized by: Matt Dunford
Our beloved friend Lorraine Calong suffered a hemorrhagic stroke due to extremely high blood pressure on Thursday afternoon, April 21, 2016. It was approximately 24 hours before she was discovered in her home. On Friday, April 22 at approximately 2:30PM, she was rushed to the emergency room at Regional Medical Center in San Jose, CA and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Her doctors were able to stop the hemorrhaging early that evening by lowering her blood pressure through medication. Lorraine spent two weeks in the ICU and then another two weeks under the general care of the hospital. Through the expertise of her doctors and nurses and other specialists and also the continual prayers of hundreds of her friends and family members, Lorraine pulled through and is making remarkable progress.
Lorraine is scheduled to be released from the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center on July 29 and will be receiving care from friends as she continues her recovery. While her rebound has been nothing short of miraculous, the left side of her body continues to remain paralyzed. Although Lorraine has Medi-Cal coverage, only a portion of her total recovery costs are covered. The key to her complete recovery will be making sure she has the ability to receive all the occupational and physical therapy required services she needs. Lorraine may need therapy for a number months or longer. She is expected to have a full cognitive and speech recovery, but the prognosis for her physical recovery is undetermined and contingent on her getting the right amount of care.
Lorraine currently has no income and is unable to work. Those who know her understand that Lorraine is always giving to others and never asks anything for herself. We have an opportunity take an active role in her recovery by helping to ensure she gets the total support she needs. Please consider making a generous contribution to offset her uncovered medical and therapy expenses and some of her living expenses!
