Help Maira Support Women and Children
Organized by: Maira Valadez
EVENT DATE Jun 01, 2016
Hello! My name is Maira, and I am a 20 year old first-year college student. I am asking for your donations for an important cause to me: About 2 years ago, I worked as a full time substitute teacher's aide at an elementary school. I worked with junior kindergartners, up to middle school aged children. I had not had a career I wanted to pursue, and working with these children motivated me to apply for schooling. My focus was elementary school education, but I have decided against it. I have always known I wanted to work with women and children. Right now, I am volunteering at the elementary school in my college's town as a 2nd grader's lunch buddy and English tutor. I am also helping out a math class, so I am back at doing teacher's aide work that I missed! Upon deciding against elementary ed., I changed my major, and as of right now, I am in my second semester of college, while thinking of changing to a social work major. I took an introductory class, and it has only motivated me more to work with supporting expectant mothers, and/or families, because this group of people largely needs our help and support. In January 2016, I traveled with Wisconsin Right to Life to Washington DC to protest against abortion. Unfortunately, a storm was approaching and we left early enough to avoid the hit! In DC, I met a non-profit organization called Stand True Pro-Life Outreach, and they spoke to me of an internship opportunity in the summer. They told me that they did sidewalk counseling with women, protesting, conferences with Priests for Life, and social-media outreach. All of these things were so utterly amazing, but what struck me most was the sidewalk counseling. I could not imagine how great it was that they directly helped women who thought they had no choice. I have always had a passion for advocating through my art for the respect for life, and for the respect of eachother. I knew I wanted to have a hand in helping women and their unborn children this way. I sincerely want nothing other than to help those who feel, or are helpless. I applied, and got a call in April that I was accepted. I also learned that what we give as donations to the organization goes towards our housing, eating, and travel expenses. We will be traveling, and what we are able to fundraise from here until June when the internship starts is what we will be using for these expenses. Even if as an individual you do not support the Pro-Life cause, I ask you for your help in helping the women of this country. They greatly need our help in knowing that they are not alone, and that they have options! I ask you for your help; any small donation would be so greatly appreciated! God bless!
