THE STORY:

Hi all! My name is Savannah and I am a therapeutic middle school-high school Math teacher teaching at a Non-Profit school for girls who have gone through complex trauma. Our girls are the strongest, most resilent, and inspiring people I have ever been so blessed as to meet, yet alone have the opportunity to teach; and they above all, deserve an equally inspired and inspiring classroom to learn in. With an 8:1 classroom ratio, our class sizes are some of the smallest in the country- but our classrooms are even smaller- making organization and deliberate use of classroom furniture & learning spaces a MUST to foster student growth. This, coupled with the fact that during any given class (I teach 8 classes daily) I am simultaneously responsible for teaching content specific to multiple grade levels ranging from K-12 (think :2 students working on single digit addition, 1 student working on inequalities, 2 students working on multiplication and division fluency, 1 student working on SAT prep, and yet another working on graphing quadratic equations)- I have realized that the most successful means of meeting each of my students' unique needs- is to teach through creating & utilizing multiple, intentional, Math Stations. Station learning will not only allow for the optimal use of our tiny space, but will allow me to meet with students 1:1 consistently and in content specific groups to deliver targeted instruction where they need it, while also scaffolding and reinforcing new and fluency based learning concepts across multiple content areas simultaneously through station-based activities. Not only will the numeracy learning outcomes improve, but my students' sense of healthy attachment, confidence, & self worth will undoubtedly improve as well--making this a necessity in our classroom for so many reasons. $600 will allow me a great start to geting the furniture(storage units, area rugs, shelving, alternate & therapeutic student seating & lighting, noise cancelling headphones, chair bags for student supplies, sensory cushions & fidgets), as well as manipulatives and necessary supplies for the stations to run effectively (pocket charts, clipboards, dry erase boards & markers, dice, cards, unbreakable pencils -for safety purposes, dominoes, geo-boards, interactive calendar, computer based learning apps, etc-the list goes on!) necessary to the successful facilitation of station based learning in my trauma-informed classroom. Every donation, no matter the amount- COUNTS! I cannot express enough just how impactful meeting this goal will be to my own practice as a therapeutic teacher, as well as to the continued betterment of all of our girls. :) Thank you in advance for your help in creating a better now & a better tomorrow for my kiddos<3 With endless gratitude, Ms. Savannah's Math Class(es)
