Help me help homeless veterans in Anchorage
Organized by: Naomi Davidson
I'm a 100% disabled veteran with PTSD, depression, anxiety and a host of other issues. In getting help for myself, I found out how difficult it is to navigate the benefits application process and how many homeless vets have just given up on getting benefits and end up on the streets, in homeless shelters or sleeping in camps. Winter in Alaska is brutal. I have spent thousands of dollars buying coats, sleeping bags, tents, boots, warm clothing, personal hygiene items and food for so many. It helps me in my own treatment and also in my heart by giving back and letting them know they haven't been forgotten and showing them that someone does care. They tell me so many stories about how they ended up with nothing and tell me that I must be an angel just because I stop to give someone a jacket and a meal. I want to continue to help more of my brothers and sisters who suffer from so many issues most people try to avoid seeing or helping with. I have managed to get 10 off the street in a year. Winter is fast approaching and I want to get a few more of them into a safe and warm place before we have any die. Each winter we lose a few more to the elements and some can be prevented. I just can't afford to pay for everything alone anymore, but I can't even think of stopping. Anything you can give to help me help them would make a difference! Thank you so much!
