Help Me Help Pekoe Fight

THE STORY:

Pekoe and I have been together for 12 years, 12 really amazing years where, as each year passed I'd hoped I'd get an infinite number more because she is half of my whole heart. I went to Medaille College for the Veterinary Technician program, my first time living on my own, ever. I had dreams, one was to have a cat and a dog, and I'd already had half of that dream when I moved. Each year the school would take in barn cats for the students to learn with (how to give injections, care for, that sort of thing NEVER cruel testing, like for shampoo or household cleaners). One of those barn cats had 5 babies, two survived, Enter Pekoe into my life (and the first proof that she's a born fighter) <3 That was just a short time after September 29th, 2003. Fast forward to right now, or back a day to yesterday April 29th. I've gotten bad news before, usually the bad news is very bad, and not even close to fixable or treatable. Yesterday was the first time that the bad news could have been much worse, but still, the blow was a bit devastating. Pekoe went in for a routine dental cleaning, but her blood work showed that her calcium levels were abnormally high-that meant no dental. It did mean a myriad of additional testing, which included x-rays, an ultrasound, fine needle aspirates, and a lot of blood work, some of which was sent out to labs that specialize in GI issues. Right now we've narrowed down what could be happening to Inflammatory Bowel Disease, which she was completely asymptomatic of, and which would mean long term treatment and meds, BUT would mean a better prognosis. OR we could be dealing with a mother trucking cancer. Once the results of the blood tests are back, and depending on what they say, we're potentially looking at a biopsy to see what exactly we're dealing with, and if it is cancer, chemotherapy. (Please also rest assured that felines do not handle chemo like people. My uncle is dealing with cancer and the chemo wreaked havoc on his body. I would not make that choice for Pekoe if it meant misery-but know that chemotherapy for cats is NOT like that, it just murders cancer, and keeps her comfortable) While I totally understand that some people aren't super animal people, I AM an animal person. I lost my 6 year old Cocker to liver failure, I lost her because I didn't even know her liver was failing until her liver had completely quit. In a sense, we're lucky we caught this now, but that said, this is potentially very costly to tackle. I know Peke isn't a kitten, but I live with her, and I know she has a good fight in her. I have pet insurance, which will help, however they cap what they'll cover and I really don't want to be in a position where I can't crush whatever is happening inside my little muffin of fluff. That's where you come in, your donation to this cause will helpme help my little lioness fight. It will help to cover the cost already incurred, which I don't even know the amount of yet, as well as potential biopsy, medications which may include chemotheraputics, and anything related to finding a diagnosis and giving Peke the best chance of being happy, as healthy as she can be, and comfortable for as long as she can be. **If this fundraiser raises more than what is needed to cover her care, she and I will use those funds to help other companion animals in need. No-one should ever have to choose to say good bye because they can't afford care. I'm lucky to work at the veterinary hospital that will be helping me keep my little best friend with me.**
