BENEFITING: The Syria Fund, Inc.
Imagine having everything you've ever known reduced to rubble... being forced to flee to a neighboring country for safety- only to be faced with a new set of difficulties. This is the life of millions of Syrians today. Most Syrian children can't remember a life without daily air raids and bombings.
I'm Yasmine, the 17 year old author of Spirit of the Wind. In July 2017, I had to the life-changing and humbling experience of travelling to Northern Jordan to help the SyriaFund distribute necessities to refugee families, and meet refugee children. With those invaluable experiences and memories, I will be writing my second book on the Syrian civil war to raise awareness about its devastating effects.
During the biggest humanitarian crisis of our time, there are over 1.3 million refugees living in Jordan, but most of them aren't in UN camps. They are mainly living in urban areas under varying conditions. According to UNHCR, about 119,000 Syrians in Jordan are out of school. Every child deserves to go to school, and we can't let this war dictate their futures. The Syria Fund provides the means to prevent a lost generation of children by running two schools in Jordan, with the sweetest children who love to learn. The schools allow refugee children to continue their education. The Syria Fund also runs music and art programs, including one called "Songs for Syrians", and distributes critically-needed supplies to families bought with donations. The donations of people across the world make it possible for the schools to continue running and for hope to remain high.
