My name is Grayson Teague. My mother Tracey had been diagnosed with GBS (Guillain-Barré syndrome) a three years ago. Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your extremities are usually the first symptoms. These sensations can quickly spread, eventually paralyzing your whole body. My mother spent most of her time in the hospital completely paralyzed. After many blood transfusions she was finally able to be released from the hospital. The doctors said she would never walk again. She then spent six months in therapy with little progress. Christmas had come around about this time and my mother said she would like to try and walk. Our whole family starred in amazement as we saw her get up out of her chair with some help and take her first steps in almost 2 years. I don't think I've ever been so happy, and proud in my life. It brought tears to all of our lives. My mother can now walk, but is still always in pain. A few months ago she was eating corn; when she bit into the cob, outcome a tooth. She had then gone to the dentist and was told her disease killed her nerves and she would soon loose all of her teeth. She has now had many teeth extracted and it has effected her in a major way. She is very embarrassed and it has pushed her to not even want to go see friends, or shop in a grocery store. This has lead to her fighting depression now and always feeling lonely. Our family feels so bad for her it has started to impact our lives. A full set of upper and lower implant supported dentures ranges from $25,000 to $95,000 (average of $34,000), depending heavily on the condition of your gums, jaw bone and existing teeth (if any). I am asking for this money to help my loving mother be who she wants to be and carry out a full and happy life.
