BENEFITING: Nativity Preparatory School New Bedford Inc
Nativity Preparatory School of New Bedford needs YOU!!!... ...to help the school launch its first-ever robotics program this spring! Founded in 2000, Nativity NB offers a comprehensive high-school preparatory program to boys from low-income families in the Greater New Bedford area. Each year, the school raises enough money to support the cost of educating its approximately 55 students in grades 5-8 by reaching out to donors, foundations, and granting agencies. The financial and intangible support of people in and around New Bedford as well as far afield means that our graduates go on to excel in a great number of public and private high schools and colleges. While with us, our students demonstrate a commitment to learning that is real and quantifiable! They spend nearly 10 HOURS A DAY with us, at a minimum, five days a week. They also participate in courses and learning adventures throughout the summer. EVERY DAY, students spend time participating in school-sponsored clubs and athletics, where they learn new concepts and skills, how to work collaboratively, and more about their talents and interests. We're asking for your support because our students are enthralled by STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and by ROBOTICS. They thrive in these disciplines! We want to match their talents and interests by offering them at least one "season" in which they can participate on a competitive robotics team. Both of our proposed partner organizations offer programs that would hone students' interests and talents while also fostering the development of 21st Century Skills like collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and creativity. As a school, we hope to begin by kicking off this year with spring participation in Botball (www.botball.org). The initial cost to register a new team is $2,500 - because many of the building parts are reusable, this cost goes down in succeeding years. If we're able to exceed our goal, we plan to also introduce a FIRST Lego League team next fall (http://www.firstinspires.org/). As said - WE NEED YOU! - and as many people as we can to help us launch this inspiring new facet of our program! Please consider making a donation and sharing this fundraising effort with friends and colleagues! With tremendous thanks, Nativity Preparatory School NB
