Kick Off Summer with a Fight Against Hunger!
June 13, 2016
This summer I am interning for Move For Hunger, a non-profit located in Asbury Park, NJ that has a mission to alleviate world hunger by mobilizing the relocation industry. Hunger and food insecurity is a huge issue in the United States that often goes unnoticed. In 2014, nearly 50 million Americans lived in food insecure households, including one in five children. Most of the people who go to bed hungry each night are not homeless, rather they have to decide how to squeeze their paychecks to cover the many costs of living, and sometimes having enough food isn't an option.
Food insecurity is not an issue I have personally dealt with yet I empahize for all of those who struggle to make ends meet. Please join me in supporting Move For Hunger's mission to reduce food waste and end hunger. Donating today will allow Move For Hunger to continue their mission and change the world for the better. Every penny counts towards helping end hunger once and for all.
Since the founding of Move For Hunger in 2009, they have collected 6 million pounds of food which has fed over 5 millions meals.
- 1.1 Million People in NJ face food insecurity, this is enough people to fill Metlife Stadium 13 times.
- 20% of Children live in food insecure households
- An estimated 40% of food produced ends up in landfills
- The average meal in the US costs $2.89 while your average cup of iced coffee costs $2.99
