BENEFITING: The Water Project, Inc.
Poverty, which sadly plagues the streets of Africa and affects a large majority of the population, can be described as a result from a lack of clean drinking water. Water is an essential part of life and it is estimated that nearly roughly about 1 in 8 people do not have access to it. Our past ancestors, who grew up in river valleys, became successful due to the vast amounts of clean water nearby. Similarity, water plays a huge part in our lives despite it being centuries later. Most of us have the luxury of being able to turn on a handle and take a hot bath or a shower, which we often take for granted. However, for many people in developing countries such as Africa, that is not the case. With unclean water sources, villagers are often forced to travel upon miles and miles daily in order to find a clean source. Without clean water, the cycle of poverty cannot be broken and thus, developing countries will hold an incredibly slim chance of prospering as many are living in devastating conditions. With much of the day being dedicated to get water, children are often required by their parents to stay home and help. Thus, they are not permitted to attend school and gain an education. A bigger effect of a lack of clean drinking water has hindered Africa's ability to thrive with the rest of the world due to the social and economic issues it has caused. No matter how much is donated, every dollar will make a huge difference, impacting one's own life.
