THE STORY:

Meet Pickles.  He's a 10 year old rescue dog from the South LA Shelter.  He's a funny sweet guy with a goofy face that makes everyone laugh.   About a week ago I noticed that he wasn't feeling good.  He went to the vet on Saturday 5/14.  There he fainted and had to be put on oxygen and fluids.  He's been in vet care since then.  I would do everything and anything for my son. As you can imagine the bills have been overwhelming. Karma Rescue is here to help Pickles, but they have so many other dogs needing help!  I wanted to do some fundraising for Karma Rescue as they help me with Pickles and get him the care he needs to be healthy again.  Karma Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization and that means all you donations are tax deductible.

Pickles’ story

On August 4, 2012, Rande Levine (Founder/Karma Rescue) and I pulled a broken little terrier mix from the South LA Animal Shelter.  The poor little guy had a malformed leg from a previous injury and a broken pelvis.  We aren’t sure how he was injured.  I dubbed him Pickles and took him home to be his nurse and champion.  I’ll never forget the moment he imprinted on me – we had finally gotten home and got settled.  He was on my lap, on top of my legs, a position he would come to love, and he let out this tremendous sigh of relief and closed his little eyes for a nap.

I spent the next several weeks shuttling him to vet appointments.  After 6 weeks in a cast to reform his leg, he went in for surgery to fix his pelvis.  Poor little guy was in a cone for another 6 weeks.  After that, it was time for physical therapy.  Thanks to the efforts of the vet, the therapists and Karma Rescue, Pickles was able to use his leg again.  I couldn’t give him up after all we been through so I “foster failed” and made him a member of my family.

For a while I was able to take him into the office, but then I switched jobs and couldn’t take him to work anymore.  I noticed he was very lonely so, I turned to Rande and Karma again.  In early 2014, they brought over little Grace for me to foster and see if her and The Pick made a good fit.  Well it was love at first butt-sniff.  I extended her name to be Gracie Lou Freebush, as in the movie Miss Congeniality.  In May of that year, I became a failure again – a foster fail as I officially adopted Gracie.

I love my babies.  I love coming home and seeing their excitement, love watching them interact. When one of them takes a flying little leap into the fluffy bed I bought I curse myself for not having a camera at the ready.  Maybe it’s only adorable and funny to me, but I’d love to catch that for posterity.  When they cuddle, my heart melts.  Gracie is definitely missing her boo, she’s lying next to me and I can feel her confusion.

I am hoping to bring Pickles home on 5/17.  The bills have already totalled over $3,800. Any amount is helpful and very much appreciated.

Please help me help Karma help Pickles. They do great work and I know $3800+ is a lot of money for a non-profit, let alone for anyone.

Thank you!! For you love and kindness for the underdogs, who to all of us, are top-dogs in our hearts.
