Tooth decay is one of the most chronic childhood diseases in the U.S. It is five times more prevalent than asthma and seven times more prevalent than allergies. Left untreated, tooth decay can have serious consequences that may impact a child’s overall quality of life -- affecting things like eating, speech, learning, self-esteem and overall health.
Regular checkups are important as, significantly, tooth decay is preventable. Healthy Smiles Mobile Dental Foundation has been regularly treating the smiles of under-served children in California’s Central Valley for 22 years. Thanks to nearly $3 million in grants and donations raised we are able to provide quality service and are compassionate and consistent in serving children in the greatest need.
With increased demand for dental care, we are raising money to refurbish an old mobile dental clinic that was on the road from 2004 to 2007 to add a second clinic to the service area. It’s worn out and in need of many repairs. The approximate cost to fix and refurbish the clinic to provide a safe and comfortable environment for dental work is $150,000.
Healthy Smiles is asking for your help to raise these funds over the next few months so that we can get the mobile clinic back on the road for the upcoming school year.
We’re honored to have The Cigna Foundation provide a challenge grant dollar-for-dollar match of up to $75,000 in support of our fundraising efforts. Together, we can help thousands of students in need receive the preventative and restorative dental care they need to have a healthy smile.
