Help Refugee Soccer Players Achieve Their Dreams

New Fundraising Oportunity!
June 22, 2017
We coach a local soccer team made up of refugee teenagers from Chin state of Myanmar (Burma) who are severely underserved, having moved to the U.S. from a foreign culture with little or no possessions. The middle school they attend has a high population of students who are in-need and at high risk of dropping out of school. The gang culture has also begun to become pervasive to some of these teens in the community. Many of the parents of these teens work long hours in factory settings to make ends meet for their families.
That's why, in 2013, we started a soccer outreach program at Lakeland Elementary in Lewisville, TX for these students to play soccer without having it become a financial burden and to give kids a productive outlet. Along the way, the program has gained momentum, and we have stayed consistent with the same group of kids all the way through middle school, and even evolved it as a way to keep at-risk refugee teens out of gangs.
As a reward to some of our hardest working players in our program, we were able to enroll three in the FC Dallas (of Major League Soccer) advanced players camp this summer through the support of generous donations. Needless to say, they caught the eye of a few of the coaches, and were invited to try out for the FC Dallas select teams. Four of the boys have been extended offers to join an 02 FC Dallas team; four others have been given an opportunity to train with the intention of them joining a team next season.
This is a fantastic opportunity that provides the foundation for a college scholoarship or even career in soccer. But it is much more than just soccer. It is about giving them a fighting chance when no one else has. To be able to learn from great coaches at FC Dallas and grow their leadership and life skills is invaluable and life-changing for these young men.
That said, we need help for all of the fees associated with the team. This includes world-class training, tournaments, and uniform costs, among others. We (the teens and mentors) have committed to fundraising, providing transportation, and doing what it takes to help them, but we are reaching out to all of you to see if you can help in any way. Any gift helps in achieving their dreams and will go directly into funding scholarships for these talented teens.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Please let me know if you have any questions.
