Help Refugees In Greece
Organized by: Seber Kadak
May 04, 2016
My friend and I are going to spend a week in Greece from 5/7 - 5/14 in order to help refugees in the Ritsona camp. We have been following this humanitarian crisis for many months now and due to the fact that the borders to the rest of Europe have now closed, Greece now has 30 refugee camps spread out on the mainland where people will stay for months or even longer, as they await the results of their asylum applications. It has affected us in a personal way and we decided we could no longer sit on the sideline and had to do our small part.
We will be funding 100% of our travel expenses so all of the donation money will be used directly to help the people at these camps. Our work will be with the Lighthouse Relief (http://www.lighthouserelief.org/) organization who has been there since 2015 and doing an amazing job. For this camp, Lighthouse Relief will be responsible for coordinating a mother-baby station, child friendly space, women friendly space, construction of prefabs, benches and other social areas and will also work on leisure activities together with the refugees staying in the camp. They want to turn Ritsona camp into a community for the people staying here by supporting them in setting up communal areas, safe spaces for women and children and help them use their skills and backgrounds to create activities in the camp. Thousands of refugees are stationed here including many woman and children who are living in bad conditions.
We ask you to please support this very important cause and donate generously to help these men, woman and children.
