We live in Houston, Texas and we have two 25 year old AC units. This winter, one of our two 2.5 ton AC units completely died and needed to be replaced. In the meantime, summer is here so we decided to get a couple of window units to hold us over until we could afford a complete replacement. We thought all was well and we could survive. Now, the upstairs AC unit's compressor has went out. We have had three different opinions and all three have told us that our AC units are too old to repair and need to be replaced. Our homeowners association does not allow for window units and we have been able to hide the ones that are downstairs. All of our bedrooms are upstairs and in the windows are in plain view of the streets and sidewalks. We are unable to have AC in our upstairs rooms. These units are extremely expensive and not something we have budgeted for. Our house is unbearably hot and humid. I fear that if we go too long without AC, our home could be susceptible to mold damage. I don't know what we are going to do. My husband and I have three children, two dogs, and a rabbit to keep cool. We have been going to public places to keep cool and at night, we try to get sleep in the heat. We need help to replace the broken AC units.
