Help Rue kick cancer's butt!
Organized by: Katie Ehlers
Rue came to our shelter after a stay in Bridgeport for a bit. She wasn't getting much attention in Bridgeport due to her age, so we offered mutual aid to our friends in Bridgeport in hopes that a new audience for Rue would do the trick in finding her a new home. When Rue came to our shelter, we noticed several lumps, but as she was not a Wallingford dog, we couldn't utilize our funds to have her lumps removed. We just crossed our paws that a loving, and understanding family would come around. Well that family did finally come around. Yesterday was Rue's big day! She jumped in her car with her new Dad, and off into the sunset they drove! Rue's Dad's knew there was a chance her lumps were of concern, but we all hoped and prayed they were just fatty tumors. The tumors were tested, and sadly, the results came back today. All three of her lumps are mass cell tumors. Yup, all three. We are crushed, as her new family is too. One thing we did promise Rue's new family before they adopted her, is that IF her tumors did come back cancerous, we would do everything we can to help raise money to pay for her surgery and at least help with chemo treatments. If Rue was a Wallingford AC dog, we would have utilized the trust fund a long time ago, when she first arrived, to provide Rue with whatever medical care she needed. That is what the trust fund is for. However, it is not legal for us to use that money for dogs that do not belong to the Town of Wallingford. We hope you understand. But even if we can't pay for it, we can still do all we can for Rue and her new parents. Please know that Rue's parents just recently lost their last beloved dog to cancer. They did EVERYTHING for him. It's not that they won't do the same for Rue, but we feel like it's our responsibility to at least help. There are NOT many people who would adopt an older dog, nevermind one with potentially very expensive medical conditions. Rue's family deserves a hug, and lots of love for adopting her regardless. The least we can do is help offset some of the costs. Please know that they have not asked for help, this is something we WANT to do for them, and we are asking our loyal fans, and supporters to help Rue too! Every penny counts, and will go directly to Rue's veterinary care. We love you Rue. You have FINALLY, for the FIRST time in your life found a loving home. We won't let this amazing new chapter in your life end prematurely. You are a tough nugget Rue. You are going to kick cancer's butt!
