Saila's Medical Fund
Organized by: Keila Sanchez
Saila is our second child. She was born April 9, 2014 at U of M CS Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan with a severe Congenital Heart Disease. Diagnosed with 4 heart defects (Atrial septal defect, patent ductus arteriousus, vetricular septal defect and double outlet right ventricle) shortly after birth, we knew Saila would be hospitalized for quite some time and this journey wouldn't be easy.
At 12 days old, Saila underwent her 1st open-heart surgery to repair the PDA (patent ductus arteriousus). This surgery didn't work for her, and 3 days later, Saila went back in to the operating room for a 2nd open-heart surgery ASD (atrial septal defect). Heart failure continued and after a few weeks, we almost lost our sweet baby girl, after a battle with pneumonia, the rhinovirus and heart failure. Saila had an emergency 3rd open-heart surgery on June 2, 2014. She was sent home to recover and grow and at 7 months old, Saila underwent her 4th open-heart surgery on November 11 called the Hemi Fontan. Saila became a single ventricle patient and had her superior vena cava removed from her heart and sewn directly to her pulmonary artery. Thankfully, this worked and Saila was discharged 2 days before Thanksgiving 2014.
As the mother of a little girl with heart problems, medical needs, tube feedings, home nurses, therapy and more, I decided it was best to stay home with her and big brother. It wasn't financially easy, but God provided for our family and gave me the strength to carry through and be there for Saila.
On July 12, 2016, Saila underwent a 5th open-heart surgery at CS Mott Children's Hospital at age 2. We were told to be prepared for a long-term recovery, due to Saila's unique heart condition. Miraculously, Saila did great in surgery and in her recovery. 30 hours post surgery, Saila walked to the playroom at the heart center. And 8 days later, she went home. What a blessing!
Our journey isn't over. There is no cure for heart disease. But this we know...we serve a Mighty God and because of His love and care for our daughter, Saila is still with us today.
With our many hospital visits, medications for life, travels to and from the hospital, and recent changes in our insurance plan, my family is I need of your financial help. Any size donation is helpful. All donations will go directly to Saila and her medical care. Thank you and God bless you! Please continue to pray for her healing!
