Help Savannah Help In Africa
Organized by: Savannah Hillen
EVENT DATE May 30, 2016
Hello everyone! I am very excited to share with you my upcoming volunteer trip to Africa!
As some of you may know, volunteer opportunities cost some big bucks... The money that the organizations charge is to cover materials and my housing/meals, so not to put any burden on the people we are trying to help.
I will be leaving for Ghana on May 30th for my first program which will be to implement a clean water system in a rural village. I will be working in a village and aiding the women of the village in building, implementing and successfully running a clean water filtration system business. In Northern Ghana only 50% of the population has access to clean drinking water and the only water that the other 50% have access to is dugout water which is fecally contaminated from animals. Drinking this water is the culprit of many waterborne diseases which are dangerous and no fun!
After I complete the clean water business implementation in Ghana I will be traveling to Uganda to teach for 4 1/2 months. I will be volunteering at a school which is located near an orphanage where most of the students live, as well as underprivileged children from neighboring villages. I will be working with kids of all ages, teaching all subjects such as math, science, English, physical education, and health. I love working with kids and I love teaching, so I can't wait for this experience.
What will your donations contribute to??
Your donations will contribute to first and foremost bringing clean water to hundreds of people in the village. Your generous donation will go towards in-country equipment to build, monitor and maintain this drinking water system and provide the females of the village the initial infrastructure to run a profitable water purification business. It also covers my housing, transportation, and meals while I am in Ghana. I will be living in a more urban area and traveling 1 1/2 hours daily to and from the village we will be helping.
Secondly your donations contribute to education for orphans and underpriviledged kids in Uganda. The cost of this is my housing, meals, and supplies for the school. I will be living in the small Village where the school is located.
I will also need to get myself to Ghana and Uganda and then home. :) So your donations help me with these flights.
Anything and everything helps! It all adds up! Thank you so much for anything you are able to contribute - gets me one step closer to this amazing experience helping poeple across the world. If you have any questions about anything please feel free to contact me at email@example.com
Or if you prefer to donate directly, I'm happy to accept checks/cash :)
Every donation makes a difference, thank you so much and I will do my best with updates from Africa!!
