BENEFITING: Climbing For Carleen

James McGuffey

THE STORY:

Climbing For Carleen is a non profit that does Testing , Education , Awareness for Liver Disease and Hepatitis C. This fundraiser is for a Mobile Testing Van. We are thankful to be helping those in need with hepatitis. We are traveling now to remote areas of not just our state here in Colorado, but other states to help With the epidemic of Hepatitis C. There are over 5,000,000 in the U.S. alone not counting the homeless and the prisons with hepatitis c. 75% of those infected don't know it. All it takes is a simple blood test to find out if you might be a carrier of the virus. The coolest part is there is now a CURE! Its imperative though, that we get everyone tested that we can. Most people think that they have been tested/vaccinated already but that not the case. There is not a vaccination for Hepatitis C. You have to ask for the test when you go to the doctor and most people don't know to do that. So we are taking the education and testing to the streets. We are need a mobile testing sprinter van to equip us to be able to test remotely and service the underprivileged. This van will help us to travel in and out of our state with our team and set up anywhere. One simple test could save your life. James McGuffey, Director of Climbing For Carleen started this non profit after not having enough information and resources about hepatitis c. He began climbing 14,000ft peaks along with his sons from Mount Rainier to many other mountains in Colorado to help spread the word. His desire was to also rid the horrible stigma that Hep C has. Bottom line....IT DOESN'T MATTER. There are many different ways to contract hep c. Tattoos, blood transfusions prior to 1989, inoculations from the pedo jet while in the military, sharing a needle or straw for drug use even just once or you might have just been born with it. If you fall under ANY of these that have been listed you need to get tested for hep C. We believe everyone should be tested and not just the categories. Carleen who the organization was named after, suffered greatly during her illness and now recently cured is doing great. Carleen knowing what it was like to have hep c is now giving back by testing others. You can be a part of helping save lives by helping with this sprinter van. We will have it customized a little with private testing station in the rear and then counseling station in the center part. We are asking for funding for this sprinter van but would be just fine if a person, organization, and or anyone bought this direct for us. We believe we can make a difference in hepatitis C. Google Climbing For Carleen and you can view news clips, articles etc on what we are about and what we are doing. Climbing For Carleen mission statement is as follows: Raise awareness & Education for Hep C, Promote Testing , Organ Donation, Dispel the stigma making medicine available to those that need it. We recently added one more to that and thats Veterans. Veterans are one of the biggest categories for hep C. You can help us help others. A little saying we have at Climbing For Carleen is that, when its all said and done and we only save one life, it would have been worth it. https://www.facebook.com/climbingforcarleen/ https://twitter.com/ClimbForCarleen http://www.climbingforcarleen.com/
