THE STORY:

HELP SAVE ALMOST HOME ANIMAL HAVEN, LET'S KEEP OUR DOORS OPEN!!! This is a perfect example of what we do for one animal here at Almost Home. Please help us continue to save more animals like Jackie. Meet our Jackie. She came to us a year ago from the streets of Southfield and was brought in by a police officer. She is currently up for adoption, and all animals remain in our care until they find their forever homes. Jackie came to us emaciated, and so scared, clearly a case of severe neglect and abuse. Jackie is still with us in an incredible foster home, in which we are still paying for all her medical expenses. Some people felt due to her temperament, age, and her health issues she should be euthanized. However, our philosophy is life is beautiful and we want all animals to experience it. So in essence, life is precious, life is beautiful let's do what we can for them. Almost Home immediately saw the strength within Jackie. Jackie had a plethora of health issues one after the other. She not only was sick, she was in pain, emotionally and physically. Almost Home was dedicated to making her life the best she can be. After the vet gave Jackie an initial examination, he gave his concerns and said this is what I would expect from a good owner to do for her. However, knowing we are a struggling rescue we can get by with the bare minimum. Almost Home would have no part of going half way. Our belief is to treat every animal that comes to us like family. So we told our vet to give us the list because from this day on we are Jackie's good owner, until she finds her forever family. We never gave up on you Jackie, and we are so grateful your foster family feels the same way too. Below are Jackie's medical expenses, along with a bill for $8,537.18 from just one veterinary hospital of many. We just keep getting in more sick animals every day. There's only so much credit veterinarians will give us, fortunately our veterinarians know that were trustworthy. They admire our work and dedication, but in order to keep our good standing they need to be paid. We have taken in every animal from the city of Southfield for over 10 years and have never turned our back. We are the foundation of a true Never-Kill animal shelter. Annually our medical bills run an average of $120,000 a year. We are required to take in all Southfield animals from Southfield Animal Control and the police, unfortunately, we get no funding from the city of Southfield. Sadly, we are considering closing our doors. It pains us to know if we do leave this shelter, it will go back to it's old practices of euthanizing over 80% of the animals. We do not want this to happen! We do not want to walk away but we simply have no more MONEY! and we are in financial debt. Our medical bills are only a portion of our expenses. We have to pay: Food, cleaning supplies, medications, vaccinations, heartworm tests, FIV tests, spay/neuter, flea/tick preventive, heartguard, grooming supplies, washing machines continuing to break down, office supplies, flooring, trailer and shed rent, Internet , phone bills, gas, car payments, Insurance policies, fencing, painting, event planning, repairs in the shelter, printing, staff to care for the animals, and the list goes on and on. Please help us continue our very important work, it takes a community to make good things happen as miracles do not just happen, we have to make them happen. We have put our blood, sweat, and tears to be a model of the No-Kill movement, we have proven it over the years. We are so grateful to all of you. We couldn't of gotten this far without you. We don't want to quit now. Education and awareness is imperative to our future generation and we can't give up now, let's keep going. Please help us TODAY so we can keep our doors open. To help save Almost Home Animal Haven, please donate to: https://us1.sheltermanager.com/service… Or, if you prefer, send your check to: Almost Home, P.O. Box 250602 West Bloomfield, Michigan 48325. Please put "Save Almost Home" in the memo. We thank you from the bottom of our heart! The animals thank you too. XO
