HELP SAVE ELPHIE!
Organized by: Maureen Khosla
Elphie was an abandoned cat found hiding under a car. Frightened and all alone in this scary world, she needed someone to help her. She found Kristina. She was lovingly and devotedly nursed back to health but now needs life saving radiation for a brain tumor. Please read her story and help in any way you can. We want to make this journey for Kristina and Elphie a happy one. Elphie's Amazing Story Elphie was a stray who traveled hundreds of miles, for over a year, across 3 states, beating all odds to stay alive to find her forever home. A life threatening upper respiratory infection brought her weight to just 6 lbs and tried to take her down when she was finally found, and it wasn't known if she would even live through the night. With a strong will, the prayers of everyone who found her that night, and the loving arms of her new forever mom Kristina. Kristina, who had never even held a cat before, held Elphie for 20 straight hours... and Elphie survived! She is a definitely a miracle cat! Elphie not only survived the harsh winter, alone and DECLAWED, she managed to make it in the unyielding heat last summer. Kristina, a relentlessly compassionate, selfless, and wonderful girl diligently and lovingly took Elphie to the vet very often, getting her whatever medicines or procedures she needed, and devotedly nursed Elphie back to a healthy, even more beautiful cat. But now we need to help Kristina provide Elphie with another miracle. However, after spending thousands of dollars these last nine months, Kristina can't afford this upcoming procedure. We want to help Elphie's forever mom after all she has done for this amazing cat she rescued! After noticing some strange behavior in Elphie, Kristina took her to the vet, then a specialist and finally was referred to a neurologist. Her worst fear was becoming reality and she has not stopped crying and fighting for her little girl since getting the news. Elphie needs stereotactic radiation at Cincinnati PetCure Oncology Hospital to shrink a very treatable brain tumor. There are only FIVE hospitals in this country with this particular treatment. After surviving against the odds these last 9 months, Kristina was DEVASTATED at the thought of losing her best friend and her incredible story having a tragic end. The doctors are certain they can arrest this tumor and give Elphie many more years with the world. After spending thousands on her just in the last few weeks, let alone the last 9 months since rescuing Elphie, Kristina cannot afford the treatment by herself any longer. We refuse to give up on her as she has fought so very hard! Everyone is pitching in as much as they can, but we need your help! We deeply appreciate anyone's help and in return we all promise will pay it forward to someone else in need as soon as we can. Once Elphie is healthy again, Kristina would like to make Elphie a therapy cat. Saving Elphie is the only option! Kristina is an incredible and unique person, giving up everything for her girl, including trying to sell her car to pay for this procedure. She says she needed this cat as much as Elphie needed her. The phrase "who rescued who?" never rang so true. Elphie is a funny, loving, and very sweet cat. She loves to give kisses! She is the neighborhood's favorite cat, and everyone falls in love with her the moment they meet her. She adores her Shitzu-Yorkie brother, kisses him and grooms him constantly. She brings Kristina's clothes to her with a "Meow!" saying "Look what I brought you instead of a mouse!", she knows when Kristina's dad's blood sugars are too low by standing in front of him in his chair and meowing until he checks them, she waits at the window every evening for Kristina's brother to come home, and even has no problem putting her paw on Kristina's mouth when she wants her to be quiet! She was named "ELPHIE" after Elphaba from Wicked because that Elhpie defied the odds, even gravity. This Elphie is the very definition of a fighter and we want to give her a chance at the life and love she so deserves! Any help would be appreciated, including prayers. Again, we sincerely promise to pay it forward to someone else as soon as we possibly can. Thank you!
