Help save our home
Organized by: Theresa Reardon
I'm a 56 year old who worked for a Fortune 500 company for 35+ years. I retired June 2015 for which I took my lump sum pension. However I took it to pay debt and to care for my ailing sister. As background, in July 2013 my brother who lived with me drowned two weeks later my boyfriend of 15 years died in a tragic auto accident he also lived with me. I own a two family house which houses all family including three children. Not only was I dealing with the grief of these two family members I had to absorb all the financial obligations left behind. A year later, my sister, who lives in my house was diagnosed with throat cancer in addition to the diabetes she was already dealing with. Due to complications from the diabetes she had several surgeries on both feet and was told she needed to quit working she was devastated by this news. She is now having her fourth cancer surgery on July 13. Due to her not being able to work I have supported the entire house including food, clothing and necessities for three children by myself. I am out of money and have been seeking employment but have had no offers although I have an extensive HR background. I'm shouldering all of this and just can't tell my sister soon we will not have a home she's been through so much. I know there are more horrible things out there but losing your home, your only safe thing is horrible especially to my sister and the children so I can't even bear to tell them. Please help in any way you can.
