Help save Tammy
Organized by: Brandy Young
Tammy has been battling with a bone marrow disorder for over 20 years now. What started out as Thrombocythemia (very high platelets) changed over the years. Throughout these years she has had several bone marrow biopsy's done, which helped her oncologists care for her the best way possible. On December 31, 2015 she had another biopsy done, those results revealed her illness took a turn for the worse. The doctor diagnosed her with AML (acute myeloid leukemia). This is a very fast moving cancer. She has been in and out of Shadyside Hospital for very aggressive treatment to help slow things down so the doctors can get her ready for a stem cell transplant. They found her a match!! She will be admitted back in hospital by the end of September 2016 where they will start the process. Once the transplant is done she will stay on transplant unit for 30 days. After that time she will then go to a housing apartment where she will finish out her 100 day stay. She has to be close the hospital due to complications that could happen very quickly. Her insurance does not pay for the housing afterwards or the care taker that needs to stay with her. Myself (daughter) and other family members have decided we will take turns staying with her until we can safely bring her home. The housing is $65 a night, please find it in your hearts to help her out. Without this transplant she will not beat this cancer.
