BENEFITING: DALLAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY
EVENT DATE: Oct 15, 2016
Dear Alumni or Friend:
We have a unique opportunity to make a BIG, yet direct, impact in the life of a student at DBU! Because of the high level of choral excellence demonstrated by the DBU Chorale, this group has been given the opportunity to sing in St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome as a part of a concert tour to Italy planned over Spring Break 2017. You can make a difference in the lives of these talented DBU music students by coming together as alumni or friends of the university and together, sponsoring scholarships to deserving students.
On Saturday, October 15 2016, DBU's College of Fine Arts is hosting its first ever dedicated fundraising event called Una Bella Notte in Piazza. Honorary Co-Chairs of the event, Sally and Jim Nation, along with the dinner committee, has a goal of raising $100,000 through this event. These funds will make the trip affordable for the fifty or so Chorale students participating in the concert tour.
Many of you may have received an invitation to the event, giving you an opportunity to sponsor a student and attend on October 15. If you haven't, but are interested, please email event coordinator, Alex Perry at email@example.com. But, the dinner committee realized many of our alumni and friends may not be able to attend the event or individually sponsor a student but would still want to support these students as they venture on a once-in-a-lifetime trip. This is for you!
Our fundraising goal for our alumni and friends is $10,000. This will scholarship five students traveling to Italy. By setting up this crowdfunding site, our desire is to make it easy for our alumni and friends to donate any amount towards our goal. If just 500 alumni or friends gave $25 each, we would surpass our goal. That seems feasible, but it takes each of us coming together. No amount is too small. And each gift will make a impact in the lives of these students.
In appreciation of your contribution, each donor will be recognized by name at the "Bella Notte" dinner on October 15, 2016.
As many of you know, the experience of international travel is an important tool for learning. Students who participate will be able to put into perspective many of the historic events that have taken place in these important venues and will also have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform in these two prestigious venuesm as well as others. The country of Italy is the birthplace of opera and the development of cori spezzati, the divided choral style that set St. Mark’s music apart from all others. Composers Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Palestrina, and the Gabrielis were active in these centers.
Italy also has unprecedented importance in art history, architecture, and church history as evidenced by the works of Michelangelo and the Vatican. What an incredible opportunity our students will have to experience these places first hand as they minister through music.
The "Bella Notte" Dinner Committee and DBU encourage you to support this scholarship fundraiser. What a great way to show current students that their extended family of alumni and friends support them.
