Help Susie Rise above Depression!
Organized by: Emily Amber
EVENT DATE Sep 30, 2016
Susie has been dealing with serious mood/depression issues off and on for 24 years. She lost her best friend in September of 2015 to depression and liver disease. During this time, she started a fund-raising campaign to end the stigma that goes along with mental illness. The Campaign was called "Erin's Fund" and it is still open. It is available through Crowdrise.
We are opening up a 2nd campaign for Susie as Erin and her both struggled with the same debilitating disease. While Susie is currently stable and depression-free, in order to remain stable, this requires multiple treatments. Maintanence is key here.
We are hoping to raise enough funds to cover Neurofeedback training, acupuncture, therapy, and high-end supplements which all can be very costly. Neurofeedback training has allowed Susie to sleep well, regulate her mood and get the body out of a "flight or fight" state. Neurofeedback treatments average $100-200/hour and they are not covered by insurance.
Susie and countless others' brains lacks enough receptor sites to produce essential neurotransmitters. While her illness is primary genetic, she recently discovered that her GI system is off track, and she has a difficult time absorbing vital nutrients which keep the mood stable. The gut is involved in producing "feel" good neurotrasmitters like Serotonin. She has discovered high-end and expensive supplements that treat the gut and seem to be improving digestion and her energy levels.
Because of the above treatments, Susie's life has dramatically changed over the past 6 months. Previously, she was so depressed that taking her child to camp was difficult. She could not think clearly, and it make it difficult for her to work. She now is manging to run her own business with a handful of clients, but there is not much disposable income left. Her relationships have improved and she has become a better mother in the process, being depression-free.
Any amount you can donate would be appreciated. When you donate, it's not just Susie that you are helping. You will be supporting the movement to erase the stigma that goes along with mental illness. We need to treat mental illness as a physical disease, and people that struggle with it need to be able to talk about it without being judged.
Susie is a health educator and a fitness instructor. If she remains stable, her goal is to help others that have this debilitating disease. Susie states, " I came into this life with this disease to first heal myself, and then help others recover holistically. I have a plan and method on how to do this, but can't do it without continued Neurofeedback, acupunture, quality sleep and the True Hope supplements." She feels like she is speaking to help others and she is passionate about doing so.
Thank you for your support! Please pass this on to someone else that may be interested in supporting this cause if you are unable to donate.
