Hello Friends, I was unable to raise much money through this fund-raiser last Fall. I ended up using thyroid meds and a serotonin inducing device See More

EVENT DATE Oct 02, 2016

Susie has been dealing with severe clinical depression for 24 years. She has tried a variety or treatments which have been successful, but only for the short term. After doing countless hours of research, she has found a combination of new treatments that are keeping her well and will do so indefinitely. In order for her to maintain wellness, Susie needs continue with these treatments--but the treatments are very costly and she is going to need your help.

As you may know, in September of 2015, Susie lost her best friend to depression and liver disease. After her friend passed, Susie created a fund-raiser through Crowdrise to raise money for therapy for patients with mental illness. While it did not raise very much money, the fund-raiser did provide 4 therapy sessions for someone in need.

This time, it's our turn to help Susie.

Susie's brain lacks receptor sites which are responsible for the regulation of serotonin and other essential neurotrasmitters. She believes this is primarily genetic as there are others in her family that also have mental illness. When she goes through depressions, she loses motivation, energy and drive. She has a hard time thinking clearly and life becomes very challenging. She feels like she would be much farther along in life financially and otherwise if she did not suffer from a mood disorder. In the past, Susie has tried everything from psychotherapy, medication, cleanses, various supplements, and countless consults with various holistic and medical practitioners. The results were often successful at first but unfortunately these promising results were short-lived and the symptoms returned.

Last Summer, Susie found a way to heal her gut after discovering she has major issues  assimilating vital nutrients--this healing journey has in turn greatly improved her mood. (Scientists have discovered that there is a big connection between mood and gut health.) In conjuntion with this, Susie has been receiving brain wave training (Neurofeedback) and acupuncture which helps keep her sleep on track (insomnia has been an ongoing issue for Susie for years.) The supplementation, brain wave training, and acupuncture DO have the ability to keep Susie stable indefinitely, but she must keep doing it to remain well.

This effective system of treatments is very expensive to maintain. Susie is asking for a donation to help pay for the neurofeedback and other treatments  because she does not have a lot of disposable income right now.

If you choose to donate to this worthy cause, you will not only be helping Susie, you will also be helping others that struggle with mood disorders: Susie is a health educator and fitness instructor whose passion is to provide health coaching to those that have mood disorders. BUT, In order for this to continue, she has to stay well. Susie is also an advocate for erasing the stigma that goes along with mental illness. While more and more people are coming out and talking about depression, there is still a lot of shame around it. When you support Susie you are also advancing the goal of changing our attitude towards those that struggle with mental illness.

It takes guts to ask for help--let's all pitch in!
