Help Taveuni rebuild after Cyclone Winston!
Organized by: Putney Student Travel
In late February Fiji was hit by the strongest tropical cyclone to ever strike the island nation. The devastation was enormous and unprecedented, with homes, schools, crops, and roads being completely wiped out in many areas. We are thankful to report that our friends and host village for Putney Student Travel groups sustained minimal damage, with no lives lost.
Though our Putney host village was spared, we are more eager than ever to return to Fiji this summer to help with clean-up and rebuilding. Many neighboring villages, including those who have hosted us in the past, are up to 85% destroyed, with hundreds of people still homeless and without access to food or water. Limited relief efforts are underway in these outer islands and remote villages but the path to recovery will be long.
Fijians are among the most hospitable people on earth, and every summer our gracious hosts open their communities and their homes to Putney students, inspiring us with their warmth and generosity. In order to help affected families and communities with the immediate needs of food and water, and eventually help them to rebuild their homes, we have created the following CrowdRise site. Please consider donating whatever you can to help these wonderful people.
