THE STORY:

Dear Friends, I am raising funds on behalf of three neighboring families with children- Galicia Moran, Ayala Garcia, and Lopez Martinez, who reside just down the road from where I once lived, in Ahuachapán, El Salvador. All three are living in tiny shacks made out of sheets of aluminum, plastic, cane, and whatever else will help to hold up their makeshift homes. El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America, with so much of its rural population and 50% of the country's children living in extreme poverty. Due to it's location in the Pacific, it is prone to tropical storms, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic activity. Though, just the downpours and winds that accompany each rainy season are enough to threaten the livelihood of these families. The right to adequate housing is a natural and basic human right. It is necessary for a family's well-being and prosperity. A truth that can so easily be taken for granted, as constantly patching up our homes for insulation or to prevent rain from seeping through, is not a typical concern. Please help me fund the construction of proper shelter for the Galicia Moran, Ayala Garcia, and Lopez Martinez families. According to Habitat for Humanity it costs about $8,000 to build a single-family home in El Salvador. Though these would be modest by American Standards, they would serve their purpose to provide security, peace, dignity, and improve their current circumstances. Why not actually engage the help of that type of organization, you ask? Because they require people to repay them for the construction of the houses, and for these families that is not feasible. I wish to walk down that road again some day and see the kids hanging around their sturdy, livable homes. I will update you on the status of these homes, however long it may take to reach this goal! I appreciate your help and I know the Galicia Moran, Ayala Garcia, and Lopez Martinez families will too! Love, Lisette

Good Luck Lissette. I had the pleasure of traveling to El Salvador and enjoying the beautiful beaches and scenery. I also drove through some of the less fortunate areas and it was heartbreaking. You will reach your goal. xoxo 2 years ago
