THE STORY:

Our coworker, Bernice, has recently fallen on incredibly hard times. About a week ago she discovered that she was no longer in remission; the evil cancer had once again riddled her lymphnodes. While being checked out by the doctor, she also found that her heart was incredibly bad. She continued to work long hours as a server, trying to support herself and her two small grandchildren living with her and her mother. Due to the stress, other organs began to fail her. Last Wednesday a customer found Bernice collapsed in the bathroom after suffering a stroke. On Friday she returned to work with obvious signs of the trauma the stroke had done to her body. We asked why she had returned to work and she told us that she needed to continue working because she was being evicted from her mom's house so that her drug addict brother could take her room to do his house arrest. She had planned to move out a few months ago, but the same brother had stolen all of her savings. Bernice and her two small grandchildren were going to be banished to homlessness. Continuing to work under the stress, she suffered a seizure and spent the weekend in the hospital. Bernice is a hard working woman doing her best to keep her grandchildren safe and fed. With the money raised through this campaign, we (her coworkers) want to get Bernice in her own place and help cover some of the money she's lost due to her thieving brother. If we can get her in her own place the children will have a stable home and she will be able to protect them from her drug addicted brother and anyone else who does not promote a healthy life for them.
