BENEFITING: Washington Literacy Council
A hidden population: You know them. You have met them. You walk past them on the street, sit next to them at Church and on the Metro. However, you never knew they do not read well enough to complete a job application, order from a menu, or complete their child’s school enrollment form.
An ongoing reading crisis: Today 90,000 District residents cannot read this sentence without help. The reading skills gap will continue to exits since only 13% of District 4th graders from low income families read proficiently.
Break the cycle: The Washington Literacy Center has a waiting list right now of 20 adults who need to learn to read so they can get a job, provide for their families, and support their children’s education. Donate now, change a life through literacy.
