Our dear friend Allen Perez, whom some of you know, has hit very hard times.
If you ever met Allen during his 20+ years in Boston, you would know him as an incredibly kind, thoughtful, loyal friend, with a quirky sense of humor, an infectious joy for life, and boundless energy that he applied to both his work as the Director for Human Rights in Latin America at UUSC (Cambridge, MA) and as a sought-after speaker who passionately advocated for the rights of marginalized groups.
Unfortunately, the last few years have been considerably less kind to him. Having returned to his native Costa Rica several years ago, he recently lost his beloved mother, was forced to declare bankruptcy, lost his home, and is now struggling to afford even his most basic needs.
Allen has been facing some health challenges as well, which he cannot treat appropriately in Costa Rica. He needs to return to the United States - where he is a naturalized U.S. citizen - to get the quality of care he needs.
Please consider donating any amount to help Allen afford:
- daily essentials in Costa Rica until he is able to leave
- a plane ticket (which we've determined is the cheapest option) to Boston (where he can stay with friends)
- as well as medical care
A donation in any amount is helpful and greatly appreciated. The entirety of every donation will go to Allen. In dark times such as these, friends near and far make all the difference in the world. You can be sure that the funds collected here will be used to help Allen regain his health and to pay it forward through meaningful work.
