Norris Frederick wrote -My name is Norris Frederick II and I am preparing for the 2012 Olympic games in London. I graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Washington in 2004. I attended the University of Washington on a full scholarship where I thrived at the college level in Track and Field. During my time at the University of Washington I won the Pac 10 Championship, Indoor Conference Champion three years in a row, and Regional Championship, jumping 7 feet 3 inches in the high jump and 26 feet 7 3/4 inches in the long jump. I was named the West Region Male Athlete of the year three years in a row. I was also the first member of my family to graduate from college.
My freshman year in college late October 17, 2005 I received a phone call that changed my life. The phone call was from my mother telling me that my fathered had been murdered. I have not had the best childhood growing up. I was however blessed with two extremely caring parents to look up to. My father’s death made me question everything in my life including track. After a brief hiatus away from track I returned to my training with more dedication than ever as well as an increased dedication to and appreciation of my family and friends. I know that right now is the only chance I have to follow my dreams. It has never been exclusively about athletics to me but been the overall message that comes along with it. It is a great feeling to put all your hard work and energy into something and see a result.
As a professional athlete I have continued to excel. In my fundraiser I am asking for $20,000 to help me with my living expenses so that my sole focus can be on training for the Olympics for the next year. My living expenses include rent, food expenses, asthma medication and my flights to London for the Olympics. Please help support me and make my dreams of being on the US Olympic team in 2012!
