Help an Aspiring Ambassador for Her First Trip to China!
Organized by: Morgan Ko
Thank you for visiting my page! If you would like to help me with my summer Mandarin language intensive trip to China, I will be so grateful. I am a high school senior who is extremely passionate about the Mandarin language. I took Chinese for all four years in high school and passed my Advanced Placement test with a 5 (highest score). In my free time I like to read books on U.S.- China relations. My favorite books on this subject are: "Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China " by Evan Osnos (2015 Pulitzer Prize winner), "China: Fragile Superpower" by Susan Shirk, and "Scratches on Our Minds: American Views of China and India" by Harold Isaac. I try to picture what life is like in China when I am reading these books but I often have a hard time doing so, because I have never been to China before. I worked in my previous summers and this summer I finally got a chance to visit China and meet and talk to the people there. I cannot wait to trek through multiple cities, rural and urban, talk to the locals, visit the national museums on ancient Chinese art and calligraphy. I really admire Mr. Osnos work, and I hope that one day I can write a book with deep insights like his. My dream is to become a diplomat, the U.S. Ambassador to China, and an expert on U.S. - China relations. The program I am traveling with is Where There Be Dragons' 6-Week Mandarin Language Intensive. The website is: https://www.wheretherebedragons.com/program/china-mandarin-6week/. The estimated cost for attendance and flight is $10295. I have saved up $1578 for the trip and will work extra these two months so I can contribute $2000. My parents agreed to contribute $1000. At the same time, I am also fundraising for a charity in China, Little Orange Lights, to help improve the conditions of orphanages in rural areas. I will forever be grateful if you will sponsor this once-in-a-lifetime trip for me, and if you'd like, I will mail you a postcard from China while I am there. This trip means the world to me and I will work so hard to make it happen. Thank you again for taking time to read this!
