Help a Young LGBT Woman Pay for Hospital Bill
Organized by: Liz
On Wednesday, July 8th, I called the police and asked them to come talk with my partner and convince her to go to the ER. She had been threatening to kill herself and had taken a handful of pills. Now 24, she has suffered from severe depression since coming out as a lesbian to her parents seven years ago. Her parents have been unsupportive of her since then, which has taken a heavy toll on her mental health. She has visited the ER before, three years ago, for attempted suicide. Her parents paid the cost of the hospital bill that time, but they gave my partner grief and harassed her about how expensive the bill was, which plunged her further into depression. Her parents did not help her seek further treatment, and she is financially unable to pay for treatment herself. We are trying to avoid asking for financial help from her parents since it made the situation even worse last time.
She works very hard to improve her situation, but she can't seem to catch a break. She was recently laid off of her job as a nanny. After being laid off, she immediately sought work and has a potential job delivering pizzas lined up. She spent several years saving up money so she could return to college this summer. However, she’s now unemployed, will be receiving the hospital bill soon, and is in desperate need of continuing psychological treatment. She is completely financially independent and receives no help from her parents. Between paying for rent, utilities, school, food, etc., she does not have the money to get help for her depression. Unfortunately, I also do not have enough money to pay for her to get the help she needs. She means the world to me and I can’t stand seeing her go through this. She has so much potential and is just in an unfortunate situation that is beyond her control. I’ve started this Crowdrise page to help raise funds to pay for her hospital bill and for her to receive continued treatment. Any amount helps so much. Thank you.
