Jerry Goodnight

Hello, everyone! My name is Jerry Goodnight, and I'm trying to raise money for a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. But first, a little about me.

I grew up in a small town in North Carolina. My family was never well off, but we never truly struggled until recently. I have two brothers, one in the 3rd grade, and one twin brother. Both of us have been active in band since 6th grade, him playing trombone and me playing trumpet. We both excelled. I made All-County and All-District Honors, as did he. I was the top player in my county two years in a row, and this love of music led me to college. Although college took my twin different places, we still have a very passionate love for music.

Last year (2010) my parents were preparing t send me and my brother off for our freshman year of college. It was around this time (March of 2010) that my father received a 24% reduction in his pay. This all came about when my mother was unemployed and my little brother was entering into the 2nd grade. Now, my parents, still on one reduced income, must find a way to put two children through college at the same time, as well as find the time and money to care for their other child.

My dream, since being in band, has been to march with a Drum Corps. A Drum Corps is a band made up only of brass instruments and percussion (no woodwinds). These are considered to be "marching music's major league" and people spend their entire summer "on tour" with these organizations, going across the country, performing shows at least every 3 days, some performing on back to back nights in cities 400+ miles away. This is the highest caliber of band and musicianship that one can be a part of, and my family has wanted me to be a part of this for years.

There is an age requiremnt. Those above the age of 21 cannot participate if they are born after June 1st. As I am born before then, I have 2 summers remaining where I am eligible. But I am graduating early from college as an education major in order to help my family out some and to start a family of my own, so this is literally the last chance I have. The organization i wish to be a part of is called Carolina Crown and it is based out of Fort Mill, South Carolina. The summer consists of cost for participation (tuition) as well as fees for the auditions you must attend (4) and the fees for your uniform and instrument. All in all, along with money needed for laundry and other things that are sure to pop up, the amount required is about $3800.

While this is a huge amount, this is, for me at least, truly a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be a part of something truly spectacular. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you would like more information, feel free to go to:
Again, thank you for your time, and God bless.
