I am Sujata Sharma, a Nepalese national, currently a permanent resident of the United States.

Today, I am here to talk about "Bajai" (Granny in Nepalese), as we all call her, who is very sadly, battling Gall Bladder Cancer at the third stage in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Bajai's real name is Ganesh Kumari Koirala and she is 69 years of age. She is a very sincere, hardworking, loving and a vibrant person.

Bajai, a victim of child marriage, a social malpractice common in parts of South Asia, was married to a person much older than her at the age of 9. Unfortunately, her husband passed away when she was 17 and since then Bajai has been leading a life of a widow and has never remarried. A few years later in her life, she got support from my sister's in-laws and started to live in their house and babysat their children for a while. Later, she returned home to her village in Trishuli, Nepal and started living there until recently when she came back very sick to my sister's home seeking help.

Upon, taking her to the hospital, it was found out that Bajai has Gall Bladder Cancer that too in its third stage. Doctors there, very sadly said that she just has three months' time to live. However, in order to give her care for whatever amount of time God has allocated for her in this journey of life, she is in need of financial support. Whatever finances she had been able to save for herself so far in her life, have been used up and she doesn't have anything left to put forward at this point of time towards her medical needs. Unfortunately, there is no provision of health insurance or Medicare for Bajai; neither does she have any social security benefits like here in the United States.

Bajai has a countable number of family members who she loves dearly and has done so much for them; but they are not in a great financial shape to take full essential care of Bajai. They are doing the best they can towards her care and well-being. In addition to that, my sister's family whom Bajai had worked for is putting all their effort in taking care and paying for the CT-Scan and other medical tests that have been performed recently. Furthermore, my sister and her family is also raising funds from friends and family in Nepal itself, but, the cost for medical care and treatment for a deadly disease like cancer is really high.

Therefore, I would like to make an appeal to all of you who care, to please contribute whatever amount of financial help you can, towards the medical care and treatment of Bajai "Ganesh Kumari Koirala". I am sure each and every help will be heartily appreciated and blessed by Bajai at this time of her dire need. My sister and her family are looking forward to admitting Bajai in the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital in Nepal; so that she will receive much needed focused and expert care in the process of alleviating her pain, making her feel comfortable and help her in her battle with this notorious disease.

All the funding that is received will go exclusively towards Bajai's medical care and well-being. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in advance. May God bless you all for your thoughtfulness and understanding. Also, if you are not in a position to help at this time, your kind effort to pass on this message to someone else is greatly appreciated and blessed.

May Bajai feel better and comfortable with the proper care from doctors and more importantly from the prayers and blessings from all her well-wishers.
