EVENT DATE: Dec 01, 2013
Imani Rehabilitation Agency (IRA) is a charitable institution caring for abandoned &/or orphaned children in addition to those whose parents are imprisoned and those who are lost or come from abusive homes. The home has been in existence for the last 22 years during which time it has transformed the lives of thousands of children some of whom are now grown adults leaving productive lives and contributing to the society they live in.
Ageing is posing a serious challenge all over the world and in particular development efforts in the Sub Saharan Africa. In an effort to meet these growing social needs in the country, Imani beneficiaries have embarked on an initiative to campaign for the aged by walking from Nairobi to Malindi to embrace their safety, security, dignity and better living in old age.
It also hopes to develop an old people’s home serving the less fortunate, retired social workers and missionaries who have dedicated their lives in the service of
different communities. It is through their aunties and uncles who loved and protected them when they were young and now they have aged and lost touch with their loved ones did they see the need to appreciate their love back by developing an old home for them.
This group of people has no families or rural homes where they can retire to and many of them are left desperate and destitute when their productive years are over. In addition this centre will also serve as an exit strategy for challenged adults who have been brought up in
different children’s home and cannot fit back to the community. It is for these reasons that Imani beneficiaries looked for a prime site in Malindi near our Malindi project where the home will be situated.
To raise awareness in regards to the plight of old people in our society pioneers of Imani Rehabilitation Agency (young adults raised in the home from childhood) plan to walk from Nairobi to Malindi in honor of our aged people and in addition to raise funds through donations by members of the public. This walk is scheduled to kick off at Nyayo Stadium on 1st December 2013 and end at Nakumatt Malindi on 20thDecember 2013.
Our target is to raise Kshs 30 Million to buy a piece of land and develop it. In this regard, we are inviting you to our project in Kayole – Soweto, to see what we are doing and know more about Imani. We will also be honored, if you can help us raise funds for our project when holding your Prestige Events.
