BENEFITING: EMPOWER NEPALI GIRLS INC
Over the next year, you can be part of the team to build a restroom room for the school in Monjo as part of an effort to help the school and community recover from the earthquakes in 2015.
Monjo is a small hilltop village located in the Everest region along the trail to the highest mountain in the world. Although tourists and climbers walk by this community every day, few realize how difficult and expensive it is for the school to recover from the earthquake. Being in Everest, almost every material and supply needs to be transported to the base of the mountain trail, then carried by hand or yak to the village. In 2015, this school, which educates children from ages 4 - 16, suffered serious damage to several classrooms and its foundational support. While there are temporary structures to help school continue with minimal disruption, there needs to be investment to help get the school operating to the best of its ability.
Why a restroom room?
Due to national regulation, the government assumes the responsibilty to designate and provide aid to rebuild classrooms and schools. However, groups like ourselves can help improve the overall condition of the schools by providing clean bathroom facilities that are also gender segregrated. One of the first steps in helping girls (and children) on the path to education is providing a safe, healthy, and hygenic environment for learning.
What is ENG about?
While the focus of ENG is providing scholarships for girls, we know that many want to help regions recover from the earthquake, and using our local team and expertise, we've identified that providing a restroom at Monjo can be the best way to help this community recover.
