Help Build SOVCO Academy
Organized by: Sally Rich
Despite the cover picture on the video, this is not a fundraiser about two men out standing in their field. It's about building a school for some really bright, adorable and deserving kids in Uganda.
SOVCO (Support the Orphans and Vulnerable Children) is a community-based organization in Uganda which helps orphans who are living with relatives pay for their education. There is a shortage of schools in that area, and classes are about 100 children per teacher. SOVCO wants to build a school in the rural area where they work, to provide SOVCO kids and others the chance to get a quality education with great teachers and smaller classes. It costs about $30,000 to build the school, and we're about 1/3 of the way. So watch the video! And see more at: http://www.crowdrise.com/SOVCOacademy/fundraiser/sallyrich#sthash.Ey1NQqtK.dpuf
In the pictures, you'll see one government school with half the kids in the class there (the rest are at recess...and I had to crop a lot of them out to make it square). Then you'll see a solution some parents have come up with: creating their own school (blackboards donated by SOVCO). Next you'll see the progress we'd made as of a couple of weeks ago before the camera died (we also need a new camera, but that's another story...)
