Hi Friends! I hope you'll take one minute to read this, because it's something that's really near and dear to my heart.
Just yesterday I was talking with one of Cameron House’s college age alumni. He had grown up in the afterschool program, Friday Night Club, and he has also been a player on some of the church basketball teams I’ve coached. He told me: “I have a lot of stressful things in my life. But when I come to Cameron House, I can relax and be myself. It’s a place where people respect and support one another, and everyone is like my sister or brother.”
Wow! This is why I have chosen to work at Cameron House. I know how much growing up in the programs has meant to me. I met my lifelong best friends here, and learned how to be an assertive and caring leader, passionate about serving others. And it continues to amaze me how many other people also gain hope and healing at this place.
When families have domestic abuse issues, they can come for counseling and referrals to other services. When children fall behind in school because their parents can't speak english, they can come for after school tutoring and have positive role models. And when youth could be spending their summer staying home all day, instead they can come to try all kinds of new things with good friends. It really is amazing to see a child go cooking, camping, or playing on the beach for the first time.
Growing up in Chinatown can be really stressful for immigrant families. It's so crowded that I've seen families crammed into tiny apartments, and they often don't speak english or have much money at all. Families long for an opportunity to lead healthy and happy lives, but sometimes the challenges are too overwhelming to tackle on their own.
But it's not WHAT Cameron House does that makes it a special place, it's HOW they do it. The Cameron House community is so faithful and caring, it has always inspired me to do the right thing. To help people who need it, because we all need help sometimes. I have benefitted in infinite ways from growing up in Cameron House's youth leadership programs, including growing close with most of my lifelong friends. I've witnessed so many young people transformed by the unconditional care and life training they've received.
So, please help me meet my committed goal to the organization of $1,000 by donating to Cameron House today. This is a special opportunity we have to take advantage of a super generous offer to match up to $105,000 for this event only, so your donation will be doubled! Any amount helps, truly. Thank you for for supporting my life's purpose and for sharing the blessings you have received with others who really need it.
Peace and Love, Josh
