BENEFITING: ROCKEFELLER UNIVERSITY
I've recently been diagnosed with Paraneoplastic Syndrome which is essentially a hyperimmune response to cancer. It can show up even years before a tumor shows up on scans.
Well, here's what I want to do about it: Instead of moping around about it maybe you and I can make lemonade out of lemons...
There is a Neuro-oncologist that is trying to use the positive parts of paraneoplastic syndrome (the aspect that attacks cancer cells) to find better ways to cure all cancers.
I can be a part of this research.
Here's where you come in: I need your help getting there. Everything is free in regards to once I'm there. The research project is 2-3 weeks inpatient at Rockefeller University in New York City under the care of Dr. Robert Darnell's research team. http://www.hhmi.org/research/investigators/darnell.html
They will do bloodwork, hi-tech scans, and who knows what else. This condition is pretty rare; they've been recruiting for participants since 2008--only 1% of cancer patients have this phenomenon occur.
They do not take patients who already have cancer, so that limits their numbers even more. This syndrome is "pre-cancer" so to speak.
That makes me a prime candidate right now.
My goal is to go after I graduate on May 12, 2012. If cancer was to show it's face between now and then I would not be able to participate, but here's the deal...
At bare minimum, I'm asking for travel expenses of $300. Beyond that I would like to raise money for cancer research with the money going to http://www.rockefeller.edu/giving/opportunities/giftstoadvance.
If I were to get cancer before the trial, all the proceeds will go to cancer research.
I don't have any fancy videos to play on your emotions, or anything else emotionally profound to say, but I do hope that you can support me in any way possible. This potentially may mean a tough road ahead for me--I think this project will make me feel better about it--almost as if there is some purpose for me having this condition.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, as well as your financial support if you so choose.
PS. In order to help me with the first $300, it will have to be by check or cash. Send me an email if you want an address: firstname.lastname@example.org. If you do anything online it will go directly to the cancer research.
