Dear friends and people all around the world, I am Arus Shahinyan, an Armenian woman who moved to Stockholm, Sweden in August 2015 and I am raising this donation to get assistance in paying my second semester, Spring Semester 2016 tuition fee for Master of Science Degree in International and Comparative Education at Stockholm University. International experience certainly expands horizons, especially for a student from developing country, like Armenia, and provides information on how the challenges were met while development in western countries! My friends and people who know me for many years know that I have been dreaming of studying abroad since 2009. So when I got enrolled to Stockholm University in March 2015 I was excited and motivated to take this chance. However, in April I was refused the university scholarship, and then in September the only one scholarship for Armenian students, Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) scholarship. Another scholarship which I was eligible for (SI scholarship) was unfortunately not being offered to Armenian students for programs starting in autumn 2015, due to the refugee situation in Sweden (the money was relocated to support Syrian Immigrants in Sweden). Since December 2014 I was working on a freelance translation project, and the payment I got was fully spent on paying the first installment (45000 SEK equivalents to 4800 EUR/5200 USD). I was full of hope to receive the AGBU Scholarship and continue my freelance translation project. However, it did not happen and now I have to find funds to pay it! The total tuition for this two years MS program is 180 000 SEK (19,264 EUR/21.173 USD). The first installment was made by my freelance project payment. Now the project is stopped and other small freelance translation projects that I have worked on are of very small volume and payment. But these projects and my severance pay allowed having part of the amount, 10130 SEK (1084 EUR/1192 USD). The rest is missing…I am blessed to live with my brother in Stockholm, who is able to provide shelter and food; however, unfortunately he is not able to help me with the tuition fee! During the last 9 years of my life I worked hard to be able to support my family and myself, which did not allow me save for education. This was a long and interesting journey, I met many difficulties on my way, but I was always working hard towards the best. However, I was always keeping my eye on foreign universities and always had this strong desire to study abroad. Since 2010 I was accepted to such universities as Liverpool University, Metropolitan University London, and Manchester University for MS in HR Management. However, I did not attend those as without a scholarship I was not able to afford them. Instead, simultaneously with job I succeeded in gaining two years MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from American University of Armenia. I was fortunate to be honored a scholarship from my studies. This program of International and Comparative Education got my attention back in 2013, because of its appealing curriculum and opportunities to take part in shaping education field after graduation. This program is a combination of theory and practical knowledge for me as future education and development planner. Having successfully completed the first course I am now finishing the second course in Educational Planning. The program provides me an opportunity to adjust my background in HR and English Language Teaching and experience to a wider perspective. Being raised in a highly educated family with very limited financial opportunities I was always encouraged to get the best out of education that my parents could afford. The education I got shaped the person I am today and I am endlessly grateful to my parents for all the efforts made for me to get the best education they could afford in Armenia! Education is recognized as one of the most important aspects of the countries’ development and I personally strongly believe that it affects the country, the mentality of people and the prosperity of any country! At the beginning of my career I have volunteered at an NGO in Armenia, BEM Youth Progressive Action Center, which focused on youth literacy, education and training. It took me courage and strength to start this fundraising campaign. But I do not see how else I can cover this fee by January 11th, so considering I have nothing to lose; I decided to give it a chance! And I am full of hope that there would be people, who value education as much as I do! Any of your assistance is highly appreciated and every penny makes difference! Thank you beforehand, Best regards, Arus Shahinyan
