BENEFITING: CHOROIDEREMIA RESEARCH FOUNDATION
HOURS PLEDGED: 5
My fundraiser started as a simple "Like" on a FaceBook page. Being a True Blood fan whose favorite character was a Baby Vamp named Jessica, I decided to follow the FaceBook & Twitter feeds of the actress who portrays Jessica Hamby. My hope was to possibly get scoops about the show or maybe even have Deborah Ann Woll answer a question or ten, if I was really lucky.
What I found instead was an inspiring story from her real life with boyfriend EJ Scott. A story about a disease that is slowly, tauntingly robbing him and other male members of his family of their sight. This disease is Choroideremia.
They began an online garage sale, selling items on eBay ... items from their own home or ones donated by others in hopes of raising $144,000 in one year to help find a cure for this devastating disease. But even more impressive than that is that EJ is running 12 marathons in 12 months in order to reach this goal. Why is running a marathon a month so impressive, you ask? Because he is doing them all BLINDFOLDED! He has to because his eyes cannot tolerate the sun. He needs to protect them from even more degeneration so he runs with a guide. I couldn't do a marathon period ... let alone doing one blindfolded. But what I can do is try to raise money to help him reach his goal and that's why I'm here!
Another one of his fundraising efforts was a raffle here on Crowdrise that raised over $8000. That raffle introduced me to Crowdrise. I not only became a team member for his charity, but I donated for entries and I even WON the prize and this made me even more determined to do everything I could to help EJ fund a cure for Choroideremia.
Once upon a time I had never heard of Choroideremia, then I couldn't spell or pronounce it but I was aware and now, I could spell it with my eyes closed and I can pronounce it too. But most of all, I am now educated and I want to educate others, raise awareness and hopefully raise some funds. Can you help me? And more importantly, WILL you?
I will start my goals small. I would simply like to raise $1000 by Christmas, so that EJ can add it to his year end total. Your donation goes directly to the Choroideremia Research Foundation and is tax deductable. Please include "EJ Scott's 12 Marathons in 12 Months" in the notes field.
The video I am sharing is EJ's and is the first in a series of videos showing his 2012 marathon journey. You can learn more about EJ Scott, his endeavours to raise awareness & funds and Choroideremia at the links below:

You don't even have to donate through my Crowdrise page if you don't want to, though I would greatly appreciate it if you did. However, it is *more* important to me that donations are made SOMEwhere, rather than that they go explicitely through my page. You can donate in many ways via most of the links above ... by bidding on EJ & Deb's items on eBay, donating on EJ's blog, donating through the Choroideremia webpage & even through the True Blood community fan site The Vault at http://www.trueblood-online.com/crf/ueblood-online.http://www.trueblood-online.com/crf/
Thank you in advance for your time in reading and your generosity.
