Help End Sexual Assault on Campuses Nationwide
Organized by: Campus Awareness Project
When did sexual assault become a common part of the college experience? It’s estimated that nearly 25% of women will be sexually assaulted during the course of their college career. 1 in 4. Let that number sink in for a moment. How many women in your life are pursuing degrees? How many women in your life are unsafe?
Campus Awareness Project was created because we couldn't sit around doing nothing while our peers, friends, relatives, and fellow human beings were being attacked. Currently, sexual assault is considered somewhat of a taboo topic. It’s something people don't like to speak about. But silence is dangerous. We want to get the conversation started on college campuses across the country. We want— no, we need— to change the social norm. That’s why we’ve partnered with the NO MORE campaign to raise awareness.
By raising awareness, we can inform students about sexual assault in crucial ways. We can teach people what it is. We can provide students with guidelines of how to support victims. We can dispel deadly misconceptions. We can change the norm.
One common misconception is that most sexual assaults are committed by strangers. This could not be further from the truth— in 9 out of 10 college sexual assaults, the victim knows the attacker. These are not shadowy figures jumping out of alleyways. These are classmates, teammates, roommates. We feel that by creating and fostering real discussions about sexual assault, we can help prevent future attacks.
Our mission is to provide interactive experiences that will help students change their views on sexual assault. To do this, we will produce activations on campus during the day and concerts in the evening, with the performing artists acting as ambassadors for the cause. This approach gives students a full day of education about sexual assault that is more effective than any pamphlet or lecture. Our goal is to start with 5-7 large colleges and universities, and eventually grow nationwide.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Reaching thousands of people requires serious funding. Between all of the promotional materials, artist fees, transportation costs, etc… our vision starts to carry a bit of a price tag. But we believe it’s worth every penny. The goal is to reach between 2,000-5,000 students on each campus. With your help, we can achieve our goal and make a significant impact. The more money we raise, the more campuses and students we can reach.
The CAP Tour will consist of 2 major components:
Activation - We will have multiple branded 10'x10' tents on campus. Students will engage in activities where they learn about sexual assault and get promotional items such as t-shirts, backpacks, water bottles, and whistles. Each item will be branded with the NO MORE logo to help spread awareness on campus long after the activation itself has ended.
Concerts- We will be selecting artists that will create genuine campus-wide excitement to maximize our reach. We've teamed up with a veteran production company that has put on numerous concerts and tours to help us secure the best acts. These are artists that 1) fit the cause 2) have a powerful draw and 3) are within budget.
With your help, we can get this movement started and stand up to sexual assault on college campuses nationwide. Your contributions will kickstart this initiative and allow us to get the ball moving. After the first tour, we plan on seeking sponsorships from companies so that we can become fully sustainable and continue to plan and execute events year round.
Thank you for your time. We hope you can help us change the world!
