BENEFITING: WALKING WITH ANTHONY

Erica Predum

THE STORY:

My name is Erica Predum and I'm a 29 year old, paralyzed mother of two young boys and live here in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I was injured 7 years in a highway, SUV rollover car accident resulting in 27 injuries all of which I recovered from except one...my spinal cord injury. My injury changed my life forever and now requires continuous, daily effort to keep moving forward towards my recovery and towards a fulfilling happy, healthy life despite the relentless struggles that accompany this injury.
My boys are my motivation to keep moving forward and refuse to let the consequences of this injury hold us back. Unfortunately, the consequences aren't just physically demanding but moreso financially demanding creating such a burden that limits my ability to reach my full potential at recovery and the quality of life we had prior to my accident.
My motivation, goals and plans to recover from my injury all include expensive price tags that are difficult to achieve without the financial support of individuals who support my recovery. I'm willing to invest the necessary work, effort and time to achieve my recovery goals but unfortunately I rely solely on individuals donations and support from foundations such as Walking with Anthony.
I've been fortunate to receive quality therapy at both Project Walk Atlanta and Carlsbad, receive an accessible van and purchase an important piece of equipment used to help me stand, called a standing frame but unfortunately there's a lot more involved in recovery. For example, I must complete a $4,000 accessible driver's ed course before I can drive again, $5,000 for a manual chair that I've worked so hard to be able to use but insurance doesn't cover it, $6,500/year for my local physical therapy insurance refuses to cover, $15,000 for a FES bike used to electrically stimulate my paralyzed muscles to aide in a healthy recovery and the list goes on.

Please realize the importance of my personal recovery and how difficult the ongoing financial struggle is on my family. Donate to my recovery and help me continue to achieve my recovery goals.

WHY WE DO THIS
Insurance does not cover a Spinal Cord Injury. There are many issues beyond the inability to walk after a spinal cord injury. Most suffering from this life altering injury do not have the resources necessary to achieve a fruitful recovery. Walking With Anthony is on a mission to give those less fortunate back their quality of life.  Whether it's an equipped van, all terrain wheelchair or physical therapy, these individuals are desperate for our help so they can gain the mobility they need to live stronger, healthier, more independent lives.
