Care for Camden

We've all encountered hardship in our life, but not many of us would be prepared to suddenly be taking care of a newborn baby. Unfortunately that's the position Doug and his family find themselves in now. Tragedy struck this Hagerstown, MD, family hard. Dard, a volunteer firefighter and Doug's brother, took his own life recently. Sadly, his wife Katrina fell into despair and took hers as well leaving baby Camden into the care of his uncle. Our heads can barely wrap around a story like this let alone our hearts. We can't fathom what this must be like for Camden or his extended family, but we here at ChiveMaryland wanted to help in any way we could when their story was told to us by a family friend and co-worker.

We posted the story and the outpouring of support has been incredible thus far. We've had folks volunteering to send everything a baby would need from car seats to formula, so much so that we have a good problem - too much stuff! We were flooded with messages from all across Chive Nation asking how to donate money. Well we're starting this campaign with our new partners at Crowdrise so that the people who wish to donate monetarily may do so. We've been working with Doug, Camden's uncle and current caretaker, to see how best to use the donations. Some people think it should be used for general care, some say medical expenses, we floated the idea out to start a college tuition fund. Everything is moving very fast right now, but we will definitely update everyone as this comes together. Regardless, know that your donation will go to helping giving Camden a loving life that he deserves.
We thank you for donating and sharing this link with your family and friends, you're making a profound difference in this child's life.
