Help for Gizmo's Surgery
Organized by: Audria Ruiz
Gizmo is my my 4yo ChiWeenie, my baby really. He was recently diagnosed as having Glaucoma and Cataracts in the both eyes and a detached retina in the one. After going to the specialist it has been decided that his left eye is irreversibly blind and has no function other than causing him extreme pain. The right is no better. His retina has detached and although we are trying to fix it with steroids, the chances are still slim. Given the fact that glaucoma and cataracts have already started to take hold on this eye his odds of keeping any regained sight are even smaller. Both eyes are causing him a lot of pain and providing no sight. Good news is that he can live a healthy, happy, normal life if he is given a surgery to remove both eyes. He is unhindered by blindness. He will still play fetch obsessively, play with the other dogs and go on hikes with me. Currently he is on pain killers and steroids to help him cope while i work towards getting through all his appointments to be cleared for surgery and then finally having the procedure done and it has been heartbreaking to see him so lethargic all the time from pain and medicine. Im working as much as I can at the restaurant to save the money for his procedure but quite honestly it has been too much too fast and this can not wait. Im reaching out to you all now in hopes that I can have this procedure done as soon as possible so Gizmo can get back to his happy fun filled life.
