This Fundraiser is about the Middle. The all too often overlooked Middle. There are people stuck right in the Middle who need our help. They are stuck between those at the bottom who get the help and those at the top who don't need the help. Everyday those in the Middle leave public assistance offices, churches, and so-called helping organizations empty-handed. You may not know what it feels like to be at the bottom, and you may not know what it feels like to be at the top. But we all know what it feels like to be in the Middle. Ever had an emergency situation come up and you did not know how you would get the money to pay for it? Ever lost a home? Ever been through a divorce? Has anything outside of your normal routine ever happened to you? Where did you go? Who did you turn to for help? This fundraiser is created by the Middle for the Middle. If we don't help each other, who will?
The purpose of this fundraiser is to help a family that is imminently homeless. The family has been living between a hotel when they can find the money for one and in their car when they cannot (yes even in these brutally cold temperatures). The family is a 22 year old mother and her 2 month old daughter and 18 month old son. The mother is going through a divorce. The father is out of the country and not supporting the mother. Because he is in the military, she will receive monthly support soon, and she works. She is in transition, however, and needs help finding a place to live and assistance with the deposit and rent for a couple of months. She has contacted MIFA, Memphis Housing Authority, the Deparment of Human Services, and even her own church, but has been unable to find any assistance.
