Christine's Medical Mission Trip to Vietnam
Organized by: Christine Tong
First and foremost, thank you for stopping by my fundraising page; I really appreciate your interest in learning more about something that is very near and dear to my heart. My name is Christine and I am currently entering my last semester as an undergrad at UC Merced pursuing a degree in Molecule and Cell Biology! Once I graduate, I will be preparing for a medical mission trip to Vietnam this upcoming summer with Good Samaritan Medical & Dental Ministry (Check their website out here www.GSMDM.org) as a Medical Assistant to aid those in need of health care, but are unable to afford it. This fundraising page isn't for me, but it is for them.
Good Samaritan Medical & Dental Ministry is a non-profit organization unlike any other. We put our hearts for those who are underprivileged in the country of Vietnam, mainly focusing in Cao Bang area giving as many citizens free healthcare as we can do and afford with the money raised. This mission started back in 2000 and since then they have been able to treat 50,000 people, perform 850 surgeries, and sponsor 180 special needs patients. It's amazing to see how far they have come and I am extremely glad to now be part of the journey this year to go back to Vietnam, make more miracles happen, and add on to that number.
In order for my team to provide full care for our patients, we need to raise enough money to buy the medical tools needed for this mission. The Costs for surgeries are about $2,000-$2,500 for open heart surgeries for children with congenital heart defects (In the US the average is $165,000!!). Other surgeries are performed by our surgeons and it covers the hospital costs, not our time or supplies with cleft lips at around $200, neck mass removal $300, and cataracts $150. If we all join forces together, who knows how much we'll be able to raise and how many lives we are able to save! It would mean a lot to me, but it would mean possibly a whole new life for them. So please donate if you can and if not, please help spread the word by sharing this fundraising page. Let's make a difference in the world by changing lives, one at a time.
