I was recently told that I need medically required jaw surgery. My jaw is not in the joint this is why I stop breathing at night as it moves back and cuts off my air way. The doctors say that if I do not have the jaw surgery done I will suffocate in my sleep.
We saw our dentist on January 4, 2016 and they had me into the orthodontist on January 14,2016. Fixed all my fillings on January 18,2016. On January 20,2016 they took all my surgical records and a mold of my mouth. They put top (the orthodontist clinic clear bracets at no extra charge) and bottom braces on to prepare alignment on my jaw so they can do the surgery. we do not know one sleep to the next what will happen. My partner often has to wake me up because I stop breathing. We are both terrified that I may not wake up one morning.
The Alberta government does not cover this even though it is major surgery. I have written our health minister Sarah Hoffman (ND). Still no reply.
I was quoted it would cost me $20 000 ($600 for Surgical Diagnostic Records, about $9000 for jaw, $4500+ to remove teeth to allow them to do the surgery, $8600 for braces to align everything so the can do the surgery and appliances after the surgery so nothing shifts back) (this is covered in some provinces as it is medically necessary and not cosmetic).
Thank you for reading about me. I appreciate your time.
